                               RESPECT THE NEXT FEATURE

Mixtape Review: A Flyy Called Quest debut mixtape by Flyy Quest

Genre of Music: Hip-hop

Release Date: August 2012

A Flyy Called Quest is the debut mix tape for the Harlem born artist Flyy Quest. Perhaps the most extraordinary achievement of this funny, hard-hitting and thrilling mix tape is that it actually sounds like a purposeful piece of work. The first track titled "Unforgettable" Quest raps, ''I can talk a lot of hot sh*t I rather talk that real shi* that nig** rapping conscious never get a deal Sh**. AMEN!!! He represents the gift and a curse that many people from the inner cities all around the world can relate too. The smooth beat produced by Clams Casino sets the stage for Flyy Quests' hard hitting raps.
He embraces coming from the rough streets of Harlem, and the hardships that come with it. He also displays his magnanimous mindset when he raps he doesn’t need a deal as long as his brothers Mike and Live get a deal. Quests’ hunger , and his propensity to admit to his guilty pleasures and sins make up an undeniable artist. The journey the uptown Artist takes you on is very enjoyable.
The third track ''Good Times" produced by Ryan Leslie is built for house parties and clubs everywhere this summer. Champagne, Marijuana and beautiful girls are the subject of this song. The chorus is humorously sung by Flyy Quest, and is reminiscent of late 90's rap when hip-hop was fun. Flyy takes his talents to the West Coast on his radio ready single California Love. A syrupy verse sung by Live Bradshaw his sidekick gives it that perfect west coast feel. Again the Harlem Artist shows his humor by rapping about how he is tired of the dirty beaches in New York like Brighton beach so he is glad to be in Cali. This track shows his versatility on a west coast track with his closest impression of a west coast flow which is very effective.
Oh yeah did I forget to tell you about the next important subject of A Flyy Called Quest mix tape? Marijuana holds its own segment with the brilliant Bob Marley Skit. In the skit Marley talks about how the herb shouldn’t be illegal. It goes perfect with the next track that follows in which he freestyles over the "I get high beat" by Styles. The catchy chorus that pays homage to the great Marley Flyy Quest, sings "Roll up, Roll Up what you like." His tongue twisting raps about the herb will earn the respect of Stoner Nation.
The third standout track of Flyy Quests’ mix tape is titled "I’m back" produced by the heat makers. This track is a old school sample recently sung by Jennifer Hudson on Dreamgirls. The song is titled You’re Gonna’ love me." Once the beat drops you are forced to think about the good old days of Dip set when they used sped up soul samples. The beat is tailor made for Flyy's flow as he weaves in and out of the Heat makers produced beat. He talks about his Margiella footwear mixed with his expensive watches, and his girlfriend’s Versace purse which shows the fashion forward side of the artist. The last trip on this journey shows the smooth hip-hop side of the new artist.

The last track produced by Flyer music is very reminiscent of a Gangstar track a.k.a. a rider track. Black Suits embodies the evolution of Hip Hop. Three piece black suits are the attire of Flyy Quest as he talks about the struggle of being an African- American man. It is also juxtaposed with the benefits of being black as well. Perfect example of when cultures clash. Black Bally’s and three piece suits huh? Not bad for a kid out of the Harlem slums.
